We start with a Montresor Soave from the Veneto region. This is crisp and refreshing. It is excellent with simple fish such as grilled plaice or on its own well chilled as an aperitif.

The new owner of Domaine la Combe Muscadet, Pierre Gadais, has made many improvements to this winery. Grapes are now handpicked, he is converting to organic growth and this warmer vintage has a ripe, almost tropical fruit character.

Bourgogne blanc can be  a boring affair but the Illumine Chardonnay sings out loud and Boutinot winemaker Samantha says it is one of her favourite wines.

In reds, we start Chile`s best selling grape Merlot. Emiliana have Montevista as their entry level wine. It is bursting with ripe plum, cherry and bramble fruit aromas. It is easy drinking with or without food.

Uggiano Chianti Riserva La Scoperta is a fruit-forward Chianti with good maturity and a touch of spice. Plum, blackcurrant and black cherry fruits with a hint of spice. Drink with rich casseroles and roast meats.

We have always liked the wines from St Chinian, north of Beziers and Clos Bagatelle is no exception. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Carignan and a dash of Mourvèdre.,grown on schist and grit. It has excellent balance and generous and gentle structure. A hearty southern red that would shine alongside a cassoulet, a spag bol or a pizza.

We have also enjoyed wines from the Ribera del Duero and Pinna Fidelis Roble especially, grapes are grown near Pesquera. Grapes are hand picked and after fermentation spend 4 months in oak barrels. This wine develops immensely for being decanted. It opens out to show an elegant wine with aromas of black fruit, a touch of liquorice and subtle oak characters.Great with steak or duck cooked with a pepper sauce.

We finish with an exotic red from Chile.  Amauta “Corte IV Innovacion A blend of Cabernet Franc 50%, Malbec 50% Deep ruby red colour and a lifted nose of bramble berry and gentle spice. Rich and supple with sweet spice and ripe, juicy berry fruit flavours. The finish is plush, long and moreish
